As a prelude to the upcoming SMK exhibition Against All Odds. Historical Women and New Algorithms, SMK has formed a strategic partnership with the world's leading digital art institution Rhizome, an independent digital art institution at the New Museum in New York. The partnership will employ Rhizome's legendary format, 7x7, where seven artists and seven technologists are paired. Based on a predefined theme, the task is simple: to make something new.

The overall theme of the upcoming 7x7 is AI and the SMK iteration will be based on the work of the Danish sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen (1863-1945) in collaboration with research institutions at the Technical University of Denmark and IT University of Copenhagen for the exhibition. The goal is to view AI and data, represented by historical artists, as part of a collective memory that provides space for new future understandings of the past, which can materialize in the exhibition. Events will take place in New York City on the 26th and 27th of January 2024 and a bespoke public program will take place in Copenhagen in the Spring of 2024, leading up to the Against All Odds exhibition at SMK in the fall of 2024.
